Normalizers of Irreducible Subfactors
We consider normalizers of an irreducible inclusion N ⊆ M of II1 factors. In the infinite index setting an inclusion uNu∗ ⊆ N can be strict, forcing us to also investigate the semigroup of one-sided normalizers. We relate these normalizers of N in M to projections in the basic construction and show that every trace one projection in the relative commutant N ′ ∩ 〈M, eN 〉 is of the form ueNu for ...
متن کاملIrreducible Hyperfinite Ii1 Subfactors: Powers’ Algebras
We construct a series of inclusions of hyperfinite subfactors Pi in the centralizer R of Powers’ IIIt factor, Pi+1 ⊂ Pi ⊂ R. It is proven that: ∀i ∈ N, P ′ i ∩R = C, [Pi : Pi+1] ≥ λ = (1 + t) t Via an outer action of Z2 on R, we also construct an inclusion of hyperfinite II1 factors, M3 ⊂ M1 with the index equal to λ, such that the relative commutant M1 ∩M ′ 3 is four dimensional.
متن کاملIrreducible Subfactors Derived from Popa’s Construction for Non-tracial States
For an inclusion of the form C ⊆ Mn(C), where Mn(C) is endowed with a state with diagonal weights λ = (λ1, ..., λn), we use Popa’s construction, for non-tracial states, to obtain an irreducible inclusion of II1 factors, N(Q) ⊆ M(Q) of index ∑ 1 λi . M(Q) is identified with a subfactor inside the centralizer algebra of the canonical free product state on Q ⋆MN (C). Its structure is described by ...
متن کاملNormalizers in Limit Groups
Let Γ be a limit group, S ⊂ Γ a subgroup, and N the normaliser of S. If H1(S,Q) has finite Q-dimension, then S is finitely generated and either N/S is finite or N is abelian. This result has applications to the study of subdirect products of limit groups. Limit groups (or ω-residually free groups) have received a good deal of attention in recent years, primarily due to the groundbreaking work o...
متن کاملNormalizers of Maximal Tori
Normalizers and p-normalizers of maximal tori in p-compact groups can be characterized by the Euler characteristic of the associated homogeneous spaces. Applied to centralizers of elementary abelian p-groups these criteria show that the normalizer of a maximal torus of the centralizer is given by the centralizer of a preferred homomorphism to the normalizer of the maximal torus; i.e. that “norm...
